전두엽 (Prefrontal Lobe) :
전두엽(Prefrontal Lobe)은 대뇌에서 가장 넓은 면적을 차지하며 정수리 부근을 지나는 중심고랑을 기준으로 앞쪽이 전두엽, 뒤쪽이 두정엽이다. 전두엽의 중심고랑 바로 앞에는 일차운동피질(움직임을 조절하는 기능)이 존재한다.
전전두피질 (Prefrontal Cortex;PFC) :
전전두피질은 전두엽의 앞 부분을 덮고있는 대뇌피질로 전두엽에서 일차운동피질과 전운동피질을 뺀 부분을 가리킨다. 사람의 성격이나, 의사결정, 사회적 행동 조율, 발화와 언어 조율이 모두 이 부위의 기능으로 여겨지며 Bottom-Up Processing(기계적인 행동이나 의도되지 않은 행동을 하는 과정)보다는 Top-Down Processing(감각과 생각, 행동을 연결하거나 의도적인 행동을 하는 과정)에서 중요한 역할을 한다.
전두엽의 기능을 설명할 때 가장 많이 언급되는 부위는 아래와 같다.
- 배외측 전전두피질(Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex;DLPFC)
- 복내측전전두피질(Ventrolateral prefrontal cortex;VLPFC)
- 안와전두피질(Orbitofrontal Cortex;OFC)
- 위이마이랑(superior frontal gyrus;SPG)
- 중간이마이랑(middle frontal gyrus;MFG)
- 아래이마이랑(inferior frontal gyrus;IFG)
전전두피질의 영역별 기능 :
위 여섯개 부위의 영역 별 혈류변화를 측정하면, 조건에 따른 사람의 인지부하 정도나 감정 등을 확인할 수 있다. 혈류변화는 산소화 헤모글로빈(HbO) 농도와 탈산소화 헤모글로빈(HbR) 농도를 통해 측정하며 각 영역의 일반적인 기능은 아래와 같다.
